Funerals are incredible reminders of our mortality. We should all go once a year. This spring a client who has become a dear friend lost his father suddenly.  I flew out to California to attend the funeral, of course thinking I was there to simply show him my compassion and support.  It was an intimate Jewish service and as soon as it began I knew God had brought me there for more than just the comfort of my friend. Seeing a therapist for the first time or even the first time after a long time is like finding relief after being emotionally constipated.  It hurts.  When you are finished, you feel better than when you came in but you aren’t sure you can call it a positive experience.  What you do know is you need to make sure it happens again soon.
